Hary Janos: Suite by Zoltan Kodaly (1882-1967) performed by Eugene Ormandy (1899-1985) conducting the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra. Recorded January 17, 1934. A couple of firsts here: the first recording of this work in the U.S. and the first multi-record set issued with Ormandy as conductor. This was a hectic period of recording by Ormandy and the MSO as they laid down over 100 recordings for RCA in the mid 30's. Transferred from the original RCA Victor 78 set: DM 197. An ad in Life magazine from that year shows the price for this two-record set as $2.85. That would be about $31 in 2015 dollars for about 17 minutes of music!
